The firm claimed net annual profit for the financial year of 2016–2017 came in at 1.43 Trillion Yen ($12.6 Billion), compared with 474.17 Billion Yen of the previous financial year of 2015–2016. SoftBank claimed it reserved 238.10 Billion Yen in profits from sale of shares in other firms, frequently leading from the auction of a limited stake in Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba. The firm stated in 2016 that it intended to lower its stake in Alibaba to about 28% from 32.2%.
